Jean Taylor, whose Tlingit name is Khàsx’ än Tlä, is from the Dakh† awèdi Clan of the Teslin Tlingit Nation in Teslin, Yukon Territory. She is also a member of the Tlingit Haida Central Council of Alaska. Jean has traveled extensively to train one on one with painters she admires. Throughout this journey she studied a variety of media with selected mentors and settled on acrylic and pastel as her favourites. She has a passion for painting people of her culture in regalia dancing and celebrating life. In addition to many selected awards and exhibitions over the past number of years, in January of 2009, she held solo exhibitions entitled "Best Foot Forward" at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery; Eagle Feather Gallery, Victoria; and North Peace Art Gallery in Fort St. John. In July 2009, Jean showed at the Western Showcase at the Calgary Stampede and in September at the Biennale Chianciano in Italy. In August she had a solo exhibition at the Copper Moon Gallery in Whitehorse, Yukon. Her work is carried by a number of galleries in Canada and the US and can be found in private collections throughout North America, Australia and Europe.
